What is a Doula?
origin: from the Greek word doule
meaning: 'servant of a woman'.
A doula offers non-medical guidance and support for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. They empower women and couples to make informed decisions, providing emotional and physical assistance throughout the process. Rooted in ancient traditions, doulas have been supporting women during childbirth for centuries across various cultures.

If I have a midwife, why do I need a Doula?
A doula does not replace a medical care provider but instead, works alongside to compliment the care provided to the mother by providing all the essential information you need to feel confident, informed and empowered. We have our bag of tips and tricks!!

So, Why hire a doula?
If you want a birth or postpartum companion, birth bestie, cheerleader and coach, offering unwavering support during your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period- then this is why!!
My responsibility is to provide guidance and education, so you can take control of your experience and make informed decisions. I am here for you and your partner, to support, love and nourish you as you take on motherhood. We know that continual support through continuity of care has been shown to improve birth experiences and outcomes, and yet many women don’t have access to this model of care in the hospital system.
A doula is ideal if your care options are limited. Evidence shows that when doulas attend a birth, labours are shorter, with fewer complications, and babies breastfeed more easily.
-
Is Doula-La only suitable for first time mums?
No way josé!!
I believe every motherhood journey is unique and is shaped by individual experiences, circumstances and challenges. Whether it’s your first pregnancy or not, I got you! Doula-La brings together all the information and support you need during this time.
-
Do you replace my partner?
Again….. No!
Let’s break it down- Women supporting women in childbirth is nothing new - think back thousands of years ago to when women gave birth, there were surrounded by women! -aunties, mothers, cousins and sisters. They harnessed that feminine energy. Doulas bring back that magic!
Doula’s don’t replace your birth partner in the same way we don’t replace midwives or OB’s - we all work together with you as our main focus.
My role as a doula is not to take away from your birth partner, but to support, encourage and guide them too on how they can be the best support to you. I will ensure your partner has the hands on skills, tools and confidence to be your perfect birth companion. Doula-La offers a birth partner workshop. Who ever that maybe-partner, friend or Nonna. I will give them… and you.. the tools needed to take control of your birth and provide you with techniques that assist in the birthing process.

So why “Doula-La”?
Over the last 30-40 years, childbirth has become increasingly medicalized, and with 97% of births in Australia taking place in hospital, women have slowly lost the support circles that used to be in place for woman undertaking one of life’s biggest transitions. With this and my own personal experiences I created Doula-La to bring back ancient care principles to the modern world and to modern women.
So I know there’s a bit of a doula stereotype, and just do you know... I'm gonna break it!. “Doulas are hippies, that only support unmedicated births” - not up in here!! I support it all! Your choice is your choice, and I’ll walk with you in your journey judgment free, enabling you to feel empowered and in control!!
-
When should I hire a Doula?
It’s never too late (or too early) to hire a doula, so if you’re coming up to the end of your pregnancy and considering it, please get in contact quickly so we can discuss your options, and design a support package that suits you! If you’re newly pregnant (congrats mumma!!) it’s great to reach out as soon as you’re considering Doula support so that we can lock in your support package and begin to build a strong connection- or even friendship.
I also offer a SOS package. This is for the mummas that didn’t think they needed help and are stuck in the thick of the postpartum struggle, or even the mummas that need some SOS help. I’ll support mums up until 18 months postpartum.
I know motherhood can be hard and I want to help!

I’m worried about having a stranger with me in the birthing suite- I don’t think it’s for me.
I get it! You don’t want a random in the room at one of your most vulnerable and intimate moments.
Hopefully, after all our work together prenatally, I’m no longer a stranger! But I offer a birth partner workshop to teach them all my tips and tricks. Whether they are a well-seasoned mum or your husband. I teach them to be the best support person. We can also discuss your birth plan during this workshop, so everyone knows the who, what, when, where, why!!
-
What if I end up having a Caesarean Section?
Doula support goes well beyond just the birth experience itself. Planned Caesarean, unplanned caesarean or even emergency C-section can all benefit from Doula-La’s support. My goal is to make sure you’re well rounded in all your options and education, so that you can make informed decisions. So I will work with you prenatally and help you in that postpartum period.
-
Am I Certified?
A Doula is not recognised as a certified profession. We only have certification signifying completion of our training. But, we are much more than a piece of paper. I’ve also done a lot of training, and I’m constantly learning and educating myself. I have been a paediatric nurse for 11 years and have also helped mothers as a registered nurse with various postpartum mental health issues. I also have 4 beautiful kids myself so my knowledge base is huge!!
-
Where did I do my training?
I completed my training with the Doula training academy.
-
What areas do I service?
I live in Springfield Lakes, Qld, Australia
I will be servicing Ipswich, Logan and Brisbane areas. If you live regionally, reach out and we can discuss how I can support you virtually- thank god for technology right?

I'm due any day/ I have had my baby and now I want a Doula!!!!!
